the first-ever dubai forum was held on oct. 23rd in dubai, the united arab emirates (uae), with more than 1,500 chinese and foreign guests attending the event, including wu hailong, president of the china public diplomacy association, zhang yiming, chinese ambassador to the uae, ou boqian, consul-general of china in dubai, abdullah al saleh, undersecretary of the uae ministry of economy, and mohammed lootah, president and ceo of dubai chambers.
in his opening remarks, wu hailong said that china and the uae rely on each other in the pursuit of taking the independent path of development and resolutely safeguarding national sovereignty, security and development interests. both nations support each other on the path of realizing national revitalisation, people's happiness and consolidating the cornerstone of sustainable development; and help each other in the promotion of economic globalisation and international co-operation, addressing common challenges, and constructing a china-arab community of destiny and that of destiny for mankind, added wu. china and uae have achieved fruitful results in multi-disciplinary cooperation, setting a model for china-arab cooperation.
zhang yiming said that china and the uae are comprehensive strategic partners, close friends who share the same vision, and good brothers who strengthen mutual assistance. china is the largest trading partner of the uae, and the uae is china's largest non-oil trading partner in the arab region. shared values, similar development missions and heart-to-heart civil friendship have closely linked the two countries together.
ou boqian told xinhua that china and the uae insist on building an open and inclusive "circle of friends", adhering to the concept of innovation and green development, and walking hand in hand through an extraordinary development process. she hoped that the dubai forum would serve as a bridge for mutual dialogue and growth, helping to expand cooperation in emerging sectors and achieve shared development.
saleh said that this year marked the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between china and the uae. over the past 40 years, bilateral cooperation has achieved fruitful results in various fields. looking ahead, the uae is willing to work with china to further strengthen cooperation in the fields of economy and trade, investment, humanities, education and innovation to create a more prosperous future for the people of the two countries.
lootah added that the uae is china's largest export market and largest investment destination in the arab region, and dubai chambers is willing to work with china to further deepen the belt and road cooperation.
co-organized by the chinese consulate general in dubai, the china public diplomacy association, the dubai government media office, and the dubai chambers, the forum was themed "forty years together, seeking new development," and aimed at building a public platform further promoting bilateral practical cooperation and humanistic exchanges.
